Empirez.net

For those who accidentally go to http://www.empirez.net, it will get redirected to empirez.com.

No big deal but the guy who owned the empirez.net site also owned empriez.org, empirez.biz, which he got after we registered our .com name. Guess his sites when under so I nabbed the .net one (which are to two most common sites on the net).

How much do these names cost anyway?

Dustin,

Domain names are registered for a yearly fee (see below). If the domain name is not taken, that is all you have to pay to keep the name. Otherwise, you would check with the owner of the domain name to see if they would sell the name and for how much. Some people have made a lot of money by buying lots of domain names and selling them.

All Prices Listed Are Per Year - All Years Are Billed At Time Of Purchase
1 Year w/ Annual Hosting = Free
1 Year w/ Monthly Hosting = $8.95
2 Years = $34.99
3 Years = $29.99
4 Years = $24.99
5 Years = $19.99
10 Years = $14.99
100 Years = $9.99

I purchased empirez.net for $11.00

Just some history on our empirez.com domain:

Years ago when i looked into it, empirez.com was free to take. When we finally got around to wanting a website, I checked into it again and the site was taken. Apparently a job placement company had taken the name and then went belly up. After that a company by the name of Cencion then purchased the name and then put it up for sale for approximately $70.00.

I purchased it, rather pissed off at the amount and that I could have had it for cheap a year or two earlier.

One thing about domain names, you NEVER want your renewal period to expire. There are companies that will buy then the day after and then when you try and renew your name they will sell it back to you for hundreds if not thousands!!! There were a couple guys on TT.net that this happened to.

Anyway, I don't think the .biz and .org names are worth having so we'll let them slide:tongue:

So Chuck was that 11 per year or monthly? I kinda wanted to start my own site and have the how-tos I've done on that also.

Dustin,

Prices are per year.

Check my post above - I cleaned it up a bit for better understanding.

You can find this stuff on networksolutions.com, that's one place you can check to see if domain name is taken and one place you can pay.

If you want an all in one package, I suggest Nomonthlyfees.com.
This is a web hosting site, where you can create and maintain a web site. It is only $70.00 per year and includes your domain name registration every year. They have a pretty good package, you can find cheaper, but I have used them for years with satisfaction.
