I am happy to kick
off Empire Z's new Z of the Month feature with my very own late 1974
260Z 2+2.
The car was originally purchased at Gardena Datsun in 1975
and has remained in SoCal ever since.
I purchased it at
the beginning of 2011 from the original owner. I was looking for
pre-76 for the CA smog exemption and a back seat for my child and
this fit the bill. The car underwent an extensive restoration in the
late '90s and currently has an L28 with round-top SUs and a 3-speed
AT.
When I got the car,
the engine was a bit of a mess, but a plugged balance tube helped
delete some parts and then the valve cover and domes were polished
and the heat shield chromed. A Flowmaster exhaust from the straight
6 gives it a nice note.
The paint is a
shade off from the original 305 light blue and the interior has been
reupholstered, but the colors and style remain very close to
original. A couple Z touches include a Z horn button on the Grant GT
mahogany steering wheel and Z center caps. The original wire wheels
were replaced with 14" 5-slot mags wrapped in BF Goodrich 205/70s.
The audio system
includes a Pioneer head unit with CD, a 600W amp, and a 450W sub
box. With the AT, A/C, back seat, and big chrome bumpers, my
260 may not be considered the sportiest Z on the road, but I have
really grown to appreciate the design. Zs have great lines to begin
with and countless modifications are available, so the possibilities
are virtually limitless. Please check back often to see the
innovative ideas and personal touches our Empire Z members have put
together.
Thanks for looking
!!
