Painting Ttops

I recently painted my T-top crome trim Black. I look 100 times better than crome. Just my opinion, maybe its because my car is red, but the minimal crome on the Z just doesnt look right. Eventually I will paint all trim black like some of the other Z's First I took 320 grit dry sandpaper and sander all crome. With the other trim pieces im gonna use a little bit lower grit paper. It just didnt seem like it did an good enough sand job probably around 200 grit. Next I primered with Hi temp primer, did about 3 light coats with 10-15min incremints. After final coat I let dry overnight. Next I sprayed Black High temp paint about 5-7 light coats let sit inbetween about 20 min. Then finally I did this some dont put I used a hard clear coat. Since were in cali, we really dont have to worry about snow and hail to damage the paint. I did 1 or two coats of clear coat. I think It looks awesome. If you dont want it shinny use a satan or some other kind of clear coat. But shinny looks good!

This makes an improvement in the Z32 moulding too. Previous owner did it to mine. Whenever I get a whole new paint job I will just replace them.

Good write up. We should move it to our section on installs and tips. I followed a similar process but my paint is starting to crack so it looks like I will have to break down soon and just buy new moulding.
